The story behind the development, the game that started it all...

There's one game that inspired me to pursue games development, and it was a hobby fan game of Star Wars named Star Wars The Video Game Menace built by Rael del Fraile (Dremin) in 2002, published by Hellsoft. I had 10 years of age when I first played it, and this game changed my life.

The best way I can explain the experience is akin to a modding community, this game had a lot of characters taken from pop culture twisted into a different world on its own. What I enjoyed the most is that this game had replications of gameplay from different IP's, you had Mario 64, Mario Kart, Zelda, you even had to search for the dragon spheres in Dragon Ball Z! It was absolute madness; though I was left with a deep nostalgia after finishing it because it felt as an introduction to games design due to the variety in the gameplay. I was after all, a kid that grew up playing Contra on the SNES, I wasn't aware of the amount of creative freedom that games as a media offered to me.

RPG Maker XP, the tool and my childhood
